Hope and Action
Defining Your Experience When a Relationship Ends

Most people struggle through the end of a significant relationship in part because they allow themselves to be defined by loss or a sense of failure ascribed by society, the media or others. It does not have to be that way, Relationship Expert Tonja Evetts Weimer says.

Instead, the end of a relationship can mean a new opportunity to thrive and grow, says Weimer, author of the new book Thriving After Divorce: Transforming your life when a relationship ends.

"Too often we allow others to dictate the meaning of important life transitions," Tonja says. "Not only does this rob us of our own power, but more often than not, those dictated meanings are negative. A breakup needn't be about blame or shame. It can signify whatever we ascribe to it. So why not an opportunity for awareness, self-growth and reinvention?"

What sets this light and hopeful book apart from others on the topic is its clear action steps for what Tonja calls the TAO for challenging life transitions: Take, Action and Outcome.

"It gives people a path to follow that brings them out of this place where they are and moves them into a life that they are looking forward to," says Tonja, trusted advisor to thousands of people through her syndicated newspaper and online columns.

Tonja is an expert in personal reinvention through her many careers. As an educator she worked with children in Harlem in the 1960s and with developmentally disabled kids in Pittsburgh in the 1980s. As a children's author, she won 22 awards for her seven books, six albums and two videos for children.

When a vocal condition left her unable to sing and perform, Tonja reinvented herself as a relationship coach and dating expert. Her Savvy Dating column is syndicated in 23 newspapers nationwide while her Ezine articles are read by millions worldwide. Her words of wisdom on dating are even featured in Get Frank, a Web site for men 20 to 40 in New Zealand and Australia.

Inspired by the emails she receives from her readers, Tonja wrote Thriving After Divorce: Transforming your life when a relationship ends. In it, she continues her mission to help others overcome challenges through hope, action, creativity and self-empowerment.

"I'm encouraging people to get creative and step out of the box, step out of essentially old behavior patterns that aren't working for them anymore," she says.

Tonja holds a Master's Degree in Human Development and is a Master Certified Single's Relationship Coach and Certified Life Coach with the International Coaching Federation. She was the online Dating Expert for the USA/NBC TV Network mini-series, The Starter Wife. Tonja has been a keynote speaker in almost every U.S. state as well as in Europe and India, and has appeared on numerous regional and national television shows, including CNN.
